That's so cool! My dad was from Tonga and all the while growing up, most Polynesian people I have known throughout my life, we referred to ourselves as "fobs" as well (well, not me in particular because I was born in OZ). Growing up, it was definitely a derogatory term used mostly by Asian Americans to differentiate AA and immigrants. But than I started noticing more AP amongst the younger generations and now I see more AA's embracing their heritage. Yea, its cool now...it always was, just we didn't know it back than.
