Kollaboration Seattle empowers Asian American entertainers

I’m not sure about you guys, but I’m a huge fan of American Idol, America’s Got Talent, X Factor, and every darn singing/talent reality show on TV. I get emotional when I see a contestant’s hard work earn them the record deal of their dreams. If you love rooting for talent like I do, join me this Saturday for Kollaboration Seattle, an annual competition for Seattle’s local talent. Competitors will compete for a $1,000 grand prize.  Korean Australian YouTube duo, Jayesslee, will be flying all the way from the land down under to make a special appearance. ABDC competitors, Massive Monkees, will also be in attendance.

Kollaboration began as an arts and entertainment nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Asians and Pacific Islanders by providing a platform for young artists to showcase their talents. Kollaboration 2003 featured a then unknown hip-hop group called Far East Movement. Today, they’re known for their hit single “Like a G6,”  which landed a number one spot on Billboard Hot 100 Chart and iTunes.

Being the first Asian American group to earn recognition in mainstream pop, Far East Movement’s success has inspired many Asian Americans to participate in Kollaboration. “Kollaboration has opened my eyes to the possibility that I can take this to another level,” said competitor, Clairbel Novelo. “It’s a really great way to get your name out there and gain attention. It’s a movement. When you say Kollaboration, everyone knows about it.”

So if you’re a huge supporter of rising Asian American artists like I am, this is an event not to be missed!
