Orphan is 2nd place winner in Korea’s Got Talent

Many of you probably watched the emotional audition of Choi Sung-Bong, a contestant in Korea’s Got Talent, and are curious to know if he won.  Well, Choi came in second place.  But there’s no doubt that he placed first in the hearts of many around the world.

Left at an orphanage at the age of three, he ran away when he was five due to threats of being beaten up.  Up until 2006, he was living in a container box in the red light district. To make money, he sold drinks and gum at night clubs, where he was inspired by the singers.

While Choi recalls times when he wanted to take his own life, his life transformed after his experience on the show.  He now claims the show has given him a reason to live.

Check out his inspirational story below!  I still tear up every time I watch his original audition.

Choi Sung-Bong you are very important to the one who created you. He gave his life for you on a Cross, so you could have eternal life. Our happiness is not found in this world, but only in the next. Your talent is from God, and do return to him your thankfulness for giving you this opportunity to make something of yourself, and to show the world you can get by, even against all odds. You have a beautiful voice, and I hope to purchase your first CD Album soon. You are better than Paul Potts from England, and thus should find no difficulty in getting a position in Opera, or other events. Keep yourself focused on advancing, and I hope you find love and happiness for the rest of your life. Some sweet young lady who will be your wife, and give you many beautiful children, and who will share your talent with you.

He should have won first place. Dance routines are ephemeral and fleeting and are gone as swiftly as the wind blows. The gift of song springs eternal and could only get better and better in time. That is what he possess-an everlasting gift that gets better by time. On the other hand rankings are only for stats. Talent is what matters. You are fantastic Choi Sung Bomg.

This young man’s voice voice is incredible — pitch-perfect and effortless. (And, if I’m not mistaken, he’s singing in Italian.) A musical gift like his is a rare and beautiful thing. I hope he becomes a phenomenon so that it will be possible to hear him give a concert.
