China, the king of ripoffs, strikes again! After orders of fake Kate Middleton engagement rings started pouring in, Chinese copycat manufacturers kept their eyes open for their next cash cow.
These guys don’t waste any time! When the beautiful bride, Kate Middleton, appeared in her Grace Kelly-inspired wedding gown, knockoff retailers immediately jumped on it and within a few hours stores on taobao.com, the eBay of China, posted replicas of Kate’s dress.
Determined not to be beat, one store went above and beyond their competitors and actually produced and sold the dress ($333) to blushing bride, Zhao Tingting, within 36 hours, reports China Daily. The picture of Zhao and her husband shows that not only did the ambitious Chinese designers decide to copy Kate’s dress, but they went ahead and created a gaudy version of Prince William’s military uniform. And if $333 is out of your price range, Sumiao’s Little Store on taobao.com is selling the duplicate dress for $280.
Zhao looks lovely, but her hubby, not so much. I think husbands-to-be in China will be getting the short end of the stick come wedding day.
