Geez, talk about freaking out. Actress Afshan Azad, 22, who plays Padma Patil in the Harry Potter movies, is currently in hiding after her bro and dad tried to kill her at her home in Manchester, England. The reason? Apparently it’s because Azad is currently dating a Hindu guy, which really pissed them off since Azad’s family is Muslim. She is British, but of Bangladeshi descent.
When it comes to dating, fobby families can be pretty conservative. I think it’s especially so when it comes to dads and their daughters. I have a couple Asian girl friends whose dads might seriously have an emotional breakdown if their daughters didn’t marry a dude who was of the same ethnicity and/or religion.
