German Shepherds are so last year. Come January 2011, Japan’s police force will be introducing a new breed of search-and-rescue dog — the chihuahua. That’s right, the toy-like doggie made popular by ditzy celebs like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears will be working hard to protect the safety of people after disasters such as earthquakes.

Momo the mighty rescue dog
Momo, Japanese for “peach,” will be the first chihuahua to join Japan’s police force. At 6.6 pounds, her teeny size allows her to squeeze into spaces too small for traditional police dogs like German Shepherds.
And she’s soo cute too!
Fobs do some crazy things with their canine friends. Read about Chinese people spending $600k for a pooch, the Japanese poodle who cooks the best Katsudon, and how Chinese people are mutating dogs into tigers and pandas.
