I recently changed my ring tone to “Like a G6″ by Far East Movement (FM). I am officially obsessed with this Los Angeles-based group, consisting of four members: Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, and DJ Virman. Combining rap with hip hop and a little electronic music, FM’s music style is very fresh and unique. It is amazing how popular this group has gotten in the past few years. I still remember watching one of their first music videos, “Dance Like Michael Jackson,” produced by Wong Fu Productions and thought they were just going to be a temporary YouTube sensation, but they definitely proved me wrong. Since then, they have signed a record deal with Cherrytree Records, a subsidiary of Interscope Records, which have signed big-named artists including LMFAO, Lady Gaga, and Kelis.
After all the William Hungs and Vietnamese Numa Numas, FM really makes me proud to finally see a talented, legit Asian music group rise to stardom in America. I also love the fact that they blog about eating Korean BBQ. Check out their latest video, “Like a G6″!
