When we started our blog just a couple months ago, we had no idea that we’d be joining such an awesome community of Asian bloggers. As Emily and I discovered this weekend at BANANA — the first-ever gathering of Asian-American Pacific Islander bloggers from across the country — Absolutely Fobulous has an incredible family of fellow bloggers, writers, activists and artists. Indeed, the lack of Asian/AAPI exposure in mainstream media (or at least non-stereotyped exposure), has sparked not only intelligent dialogue but also great opportunities for alternative media within our community.

Emily and I met a ton of seasoned bloggers and writers, including event hosts Lac Su (author of I Love Yous are for White People) and Steve Nguyen (ChannelAPA.com), as well as blogging heavy-hitters like Phil Yu (angryasianman.com), “Militant” (minoritymilitant.blogspot.com), Ernie Hsiung (8Asians.com), Taz (sepiamutiny.com), Curtis Chin and Oiyan Poon (APAforprogress.org), and bloggers from the critically acclaimed Hyphen Magazine, just to name a few.
Plus, Emily and I automatically fell in love with Gil and Erin (below) of visualizasian.com— the cute couple unofficially adopted us as their “daughters.” Funny, because right after we met them, Emily and I whispered to each other, “I want them as our parents!” Gil even wrote a very sweet mention about us on his blog post about BANANA—thanks, Gil!
Props to Lac and Steve for putting on a great event!
