Need an easier way to learn Mandarin? Learn a Jay Chou song!

by Amy Nguyen on November 4, 2009

That’s what these sisters did!  According to their YouTube page, these African-American sisters decided to learn Mandarin because of their interest in Asian culture.  After their Chinese-Singaporean friend introduced them to Jay Chou’s tunes, they began videotaping themselves singing Chinese music, including songs by my favorites, JJ Lin, David Tao, and Leehom Wang.

While I can’t speak Mandarin, I’m a huge fan of Jay Chou and can attest to how hard it is to learn Chinese–even my Mandarin-speaking friends can’t sing nearly as well as these two can.

For all us Asians out there, there’s no more excuses for not knowing your mother tongue!

Check out this video of them singing Jay Chou’s Ai Zai Xi Yuan Qian. Very impressive.

I am chinese and I can’t make out ANYTHING they are singing. You guys know that Jay is known for his poor pronunciation right? If you see it that way, these two sure can sing a Jay or two!

jay chow doesn’t have poor pronunciation in the way that he’s not able to…he’s just a lazy bastard and doesnt want to enunciate every word… turtle
